Nowadays SUVs are getting trendy and their sales are increasing dramatically. SUVs are more practical over the Sedans and Hatchbacks, more ground clearance and good ride quality are attracting most of the car buyers and Carmakers are providing SUV like feel cars at great price. Entry level Micro SUVs is getting attention after the launch of Ignis, Tata has decided to bring their Micro SUV, Tata Punch to the market, Tata had shown the concept HBX back in the Auto-Expo 2020. Now the Tata has given glance about the new Micro SUV and shown as the production ready model of the car.
Tata has changed the name to Punch from HBX, This car will sit right below the Tata's Compact SUV i.e. Nexon. Tata will bring the affordable SUV in the form of Punch. It is underpinned by Tata's Alpha Architecture which will provide great safety and build quality as Altroz. Tata is always committed to provide safe cars and same is the case for Punch vehicle.
Is it similar to the HBX concept?
As we know Tata showed the HBX in Auto-Expo 2020 and by the pictures we can see that Punch is almost close to the concept model and Tata said that its interiors will be identical to the concept version. It follows the design language of other Tata SUVs, it gets similar split Headlight design and it looks like a mini Harrier doesn't it?
Exteriors:
Tata hasn't revealed much details, We have the first glimpse about the Micro SUV, it gets split headlamp design like Safari, gets LED DRLs upfront, black skied plates, squared wheel arches, dual tone Alloys, body cladding to give it a rugged look, rear door handle integrated well in the C pillar just like the Altroz. Top end model will also get a dual tone paint color options.
At the rear Punch looks like a mini Nexon from the rear, gets faux skied plate, LED taillights, rear wiper, de-fogger.
The Micro SUV looks rugged and solid, gets good ground clearance we don't have exact figures though.
Interiors:
Tata says Punch's interiors will be identical to the HBX concept, Gets all black interiors, gold color treatment/ inserts around the AC vents, dashboard, door pad, gold stitching on the seats as well. It will get a floating 7.0 inch infotainment system, maybe auto AC for top end model.
Engine options:
Tata Punch will only get petrol engine powertrain, It will get the same 1.2-Litre naturally aspirated engine which is a 3 cylinder unit that does duty in the Tiago, Tigor and Altroz. It produces 86bhp and 113Nm of torque. Tata claims 19.05kmpl of mileage for this powertrain.
It will get two transmission options, similar to Altroz, Tiago. It will have a 5 speed manual and a AMT based automatic transmission option.
Pricing and Rivals:
Tata is being doing great in the Indian market and their sales are increasing as well, last month Nexon was highest selling Compact SUV in the segment. By this we can say that Tata will launch the Punch at very aggressive price. This car will be priced between the Altroz and Nexon, expected pricing will be Rs, 5.5 Lakhs. It will be launched within September.
Tata Punch will rival the existing Maruti Suzuki Ignis, Mahindra KUV 100 NXT, upcoming Hyundai Casper.
