HONDA'S UPCOMING MID SIZE SUV (ZR-V)

Mid size SUVs sales are growing day by day, after the Compact SUV segment, the Mid size SUV is getting trend. SUVs/Crossovers like Creta, Seltos, Kushaq, Taigun and Astor are available in the Indian car market. Honda is planning to enter this segment by City based SUV. Like other cars, It will be a five seater SUV that will rival all other cars in the segment. Honda has revealed the concept of the car and Honda has planned to reveal the car on Nov 11th in Gaikindo Indonesia International show(GIIIA).

All about Honda's new mid size SUV:

This car is underpinned by the same platform as City and it will get the same powertrain as City. It will share the parts from the City and discontinued BR-V. By the concept will can get an idea of the upcoming SUV. The SUV may get front end inspired from the City's front design. Concept shows similar headlight and DRL design as City. For sure it will get new aggressive grille and bumper to give it SUV stance. Concept shows that car will get LED headlights and taillights. The car will also get connected car feature.

Like other SUVs it will get all SUV treatment like roof-rails, ample ground clearance, side cladding and faux skid plates. The length of the car will likely fall between 4.2m-4.3m like other mid size SUVs. Width, height and boot space values will be closer to rivals. It will get interior design similar to the BR-V and Honda may add more features to give great competition to the competitors.

Engine options:

As discussed above, it will get powertrain option of City. It will get both City's Petrol and Diesel engines. As per City's sales Petrol sales are better than Diesel sales. So Honda may launch SUV with Petrol only, it will also get Hybrid Petrol engine which achieved 27kmpl of mileage during testing in Malaysia and Thailand, read about it from our blog here. That will make it first in segment Hybrid car. Will have to wait till official launch.

The 1.5L four cylinder naturally aspirated engine produces 121bhp and 145Nm of torque. It will also get same transmission options too.

How Honda's upcoming SUV will play the role:

Honda has always been late in entering new segments, but this time they are entering at almost try time. This segment has limited competitors, this will help Honda a bit. Honda's past SUV sales are not upto the mark, their compact SUV WR-V is struggling to compete against its rivals, it has outdated and doesn't look upmarket.

WR-V failed due to lack of features which the Korean siblings Sonet and Venue offered, Honda should offer great features so that they give neck to neck competition with their new mid size SUV. The Korean siblings Creta and Seltos had first in segment features and later MG broke it with bringing ADAS at aggressive price. The German siblings too are not far behind, they too offer great features but they provide great driving and proper German car feel, which it far better than other cars. So Honda should also bring great improvements to their car to survive in the segment. Honda can make it happen with their first in segment Hybrid technology. Lets wait for the launch and observe how well this upcoming mid size SUV will bring fortune.
